Week 6 - The Rights of Women, White Rock Lake, and a Spontaneous Trip Home
The sixth week was a bit abnormal in that I made the decision to take a brief trip home after we finished our seminar on Monday.
At the beginning of the week, we had the pleasure of discussing Ericka Bachiochi's text, "The Rights of Women," in a seminar led by Dr. Elizabeth Corey of Baylor University. The conversation was engaging and I found Dr. Bachiochi's perspective on feminism to be refreshingly moderate compared the many of the texts on the topic that I had read in the past.
In the evening, the majority of the Shaftesbury Fellows took a trip to White Rock Lake. Although the weather was rather warm, we enjoyed the time to visit the beautiful lake and watch the sunset.
On Tuesday, I took a flight back to the West Coast to visit my family. It was lovely to spend a few days hanging out with them and I enjoyed catching up with friends as well.
The majority of my studies this week was composed of reviewing my notes from all my reading this summer and developing the outline for my paper. I have finished the reading phase of my research and plan to spend the majority of the last few weeks of the Fellowship writing and refining my paper for the presentation at the end of July.
